Politics and Government: The G8

In today's world, one of the most important and significant social issues regards the world of politics. As a matter of fact, one of the most important summit that treats governmental issues is called G8 (or group of 8 major economies of the world).

The congress takes place every year in a different city in Europe, the location is decided by the congress itself. The eight countries taking part in the G8 are: France, Germany, Italy, Canada, Russia, Japan and the United States; however other two great economies such as China and Brazil are not allowed to take part to this type of congress.

Briefly speaking, each Prime Minister of each of the eight countries is asked to attend personally this congress. During the congress, the Prime Ministers will discuss of different topics, the more discussed are: world's poverty, governmental strategies and import/export.

Speaking about the structure of the congress, the summit lacks of an administrative structure like those for internal organizations, such as the World Bank (as an example). The group even lacks of a permanent offices for its members. The presidency rotates every year among member countries, as an example, one year the G8's administrative power belongs to the United States and the next year it may switch and everything is decided by Germany.

As said before, each of the eight countries are represented by the Prime Ministers. As an example Italy's  actual Prime Minister is Mario Monti, Canada is represented by Stephen Harper, France is represented by François Hollande, Germany is represented by Cancellor Angela Merkel, Japan by Prime Minister Shinzo Abe, Russia by Vladimir Putin, UK is represented by Prime Minister David Cameron, who also was elected president of the 2013 G8 summit; and last but not least, the United States of America are represented by President Barack Obama.

However, the G8 congress summit is subject of a lot of criticism by journalists from every part of the world. As a matter of fact, from when the G8 begun in the early 1974, the world's tax of poverty increased hugely. Therefore the press blames majorly this summit, because as a journalist posted an article in "The New York Times" in January 2012, he said: "The G8 summit congress is not as satisfying as it should be, it is asked to do more from a group of people of this importance" talking about the G8.

In conclusion, the G8 will certainly not satisfy everybody, but it is a good starting point to change this in a better world.
